At Mount Saint Mary's University, we cultivate exceptional leaders.

Our graduates are well-rounded professionals with successful careers ranging from law and public policy to international development and human rights advocacy.

The History and Political Science department is committed to providing students with a superior education through challenging and innovative course work, skills-building instruction, exposure to professional research methods, and unique opportunities to learn and grow beyond the classroom.

Through undergraduate research experiences, international travel-study opportunities, internships, inter-collegiate competitions and student debates, our students gain real-life experience and preparation for future career and academic success.

Our programs are distinguished by small class sizes, academic and professional mentoring, and personalized attention from expert faculty who are genuinely dedicated to their students – both in and out of the classroom. At the Mount, you’ll be continually challenged to think creatively and critically while thriving in an incredibly supportive environment.

Our mission is to create engaged and informed citizens who are capable of effectively participating in, and contributing to, the society in which they live, armed with the skills and confidence to take on leadership roles.

    GWSTEM undergraduate honors program

This program trains cohorts of undergraduate women to conduct basic and applied research in both the sciences and social sciences with a focus on global and interdisciplinary approaches. This program reflects the Mount's mission and strategic plan to empower women, engage in a global environment and to increase undergraduate research opportunities. Take courses in policy and STEM. Engage in Summer Research Abroad!

The Mount has an atmosphere that allows everyone to feel welcome to try new things. The opportunities I’ve had, like visiting India, have been life-changing. But I really believe that the faculty has been the best part. Since it’s such a good small school, your professors can give you the attention you need. I am unstoppable because of how the Mount is.
