This fall, Mount Saint Mary’s University welcomed hundreds of prospective students and their families to experience the heart of campus life through a series of immersive open house events. From hands-on learning in high-tech nursing labs to vibrant student-led fairs and inspiring faculty interactions, visitors got a true taste of what it means to be part of the Mount community.
"Our open houses are opportunities for future students to see themselves thriving — to imagine their future, their community and their purpose,” said Susan Dileno, vice president for enrollment management. “We want every visitor to leave feeling inspired, informed and excited about the possibilities ahead.”
The program season kicked off with the Nursing Open House on September 27, where future healthcare professionals explored the University’s top-ranked program. Attendees toured the Nursing Skills & Simulation Lab, met faculty and learned how the Mount’s hands-on approach prepares students to lead with compassion and confidence.
Graduate students took center stage at the Graduate Open House on October 4, held at the historic Doheny Campus. The event featured mock classes, industry panels, and networking opportunities with faculty and current students, giving prospective grad students the opportunity to learn more about the Mount’s advanced programs and professional opportunities.
The biggest event of the season, the Fall Open House on October 19, drew over 370 attendees, including prospective students and their guests. The day began with a warm welcome from MSMU President Ann McElaney-Johnson and unfolded into a dynamic schedule of academic sessions, admissions guidance, and student life exploration. Prospective undergraduates also learned about (M)POWER, the University’s new signature program that complements the Mount’s rigorous academics by embedding career preparation and readiness into every student’s college journey. From day one to graduation, (M)POWER offers a structured and innovative framework that equips students with the skills, experiences, and confidence to thrive beyond college.
Visitors also experienced campus life through the Community Fair, where student clubs, academic departments, and campus offices came together to showcase the energy and diversity of life at the Mount. Prospective students who submitted an application and unofficial transcript could even receive an on-the-spot admissions decision — a unique opportunity that underscored the University’s commitment to accessibility and student support. Guests also learned how scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study can make a Mount education accessible and toured the Nursing Skills & Simulation Lab to see the University’s hands-on approach to learning in action.
In celebration of National Transfer Student Week, the University hosted a Transfer Dinner on October 23, welcoming prospective transfer students to connect with peers, explore tailored resources, and take steps toward becoming a Mount student.
Across all events, one message rang clear: Mount Saint Mary’s University is a place where students are seen, supported and empowered to thrive. From academic excellence to community connection, the Fall Open Houses offered a meaningful glimpse into the transformative experience that awaits future Athenians.
